Speechless

As usual with my reviews, all scores default to 4 (“Good, but nothing to write home about”) and control defaults to 5 (“gets the job done, does not gets in the way”).

From bat start it hit me in the chin and left me staggered with its opening scene. I was really reluctant in trying this one out, but it was a hidden gem all along. The story is emotional and music matches it neatly for a somewhat dramatic, although Kemco-ish, experience. They even voiced the introduction scene for impact.

Controls… Are poor. You can adjust the D-Pad slightly, but ugh. It’s easy to press wrong direction button. The portrait orientation did it no favors. It didn’t get in way of my experience, though it might in yours.

Game is short, 4 hours tops, it really doesn’t overstay its welcome. This resulted in excellent execution of the plot twists and made it a worthwhile experience.

Skills are kinda simple (there are 16 in total, 15 common and 1 unique per character), and used as you combine eight different stones. It works. Instakill skill has nearly 100% chance versus non boss, ended up using it whenever a monster would need two hits. Likewise, there’s a single skill you use against boss monsters. Auto works, not too good but not too bad. Given each character can be put on auto, it was…fun.

Low budget in overall, some art reuse or recolors, and a story good enough that I don’t wish to give spoilers and left me speechless. If you’re looking to a well spent afternoon while you’re in a plane trip or something, this is a solid choice.

Pros:
  • Story with emotional impact
  • Short but enjoyable
Cons:
  • D-Pad
  • Portrait Orientation

Unique story for Kemco's standards

This game really made me feel emotional. Play it for it’s story! It revolves around a dying world and the main character’s quest to find out the cause. The soundtrack is also a high point has a really beautiful vocal main theme, also the game has voiced moments (Japanese). It’s pretty short and not hard at all, the leveling system is like Final Fantasy 2. Overall it’s one of my favorite Kemco’s only for it’s deeply emotional impact!

Pros:
  • Deeply emotional and intriguing plot
  • Main characters development
  • Beautiful original song
  • Game doesn't end after credits (true ending)
Cons:
  • Clunky buttons
  • Vertical screen only
  • Graphics are a little aged
  • Linear
