Plot

There is a legendary treasure created by a sage long ago called "The sword of Amal" that used one's magical power to grant wishes. The sword was sealed away and can only be unsealed with 6 pieces of the "Map of Amal" hidden all over the world. There are people called seekers that hunt down the Sword of Amal for their own reasons. One such character being the protagonist Ryser and his monster friend Cougar. They soon meet up with 3 other seekers being a Merchant's daughter Tiana and her personal guard Ferio as well as a veteran Caldina and join forces to find the Sword of Amal.

If you've played Uncharted or watched Indiana Jones, then you can guess how the plot of the game will go. However, the characters are interesting enough to keep playing throughout the game, especially the main characters, as they develop over the course of the story.

Gameplay-Standard Turn based RPG

If you've played Alphadia Genesis, then you will soon feel at home with this game as Illusion of l'Phalcia (IoP) can be seen as almost a carbon copy of Alphadia Genesis with characters being able to utilize "Phantom Skills" as well as learn either Black or White magic. The Sub member assist from Alphadia Genesis returns as a Chain attack in which one member of the party can call upon their allies to the sides for a combo of skills and magic. However, instead of equipping rings to increase one's magic proficiency, one must equip various runes.

If you've played Asdivine Hearts, then you will find that the Rubix system is the same as the Rune Gem system. Each character has a grid in which they can insert gems that grant one special abilities. The game becomes more intresting as you try to fit all the gems that come in different shapes and sizes properly into a rune in order to max out a character's utility.

If you've played an EXE Create game, then you should feel at home playing IoP. Otherwise, buckle yourself in for a massive RPG. However, the post game content leaves a lot to be desired as only new enemies are added. No new dungeons in the post game or even a battle arena.

Play Time: 24+ Hours (Completionist)

IAP Content

The IAP content is simply an array of useful stat-boosting accesories (But not necessary although if you do choose to purchase some, I would recommend the Mach Necklace. You will want the speed for the post game) as well as rare stat-boosting items and other useful trinkets that can be used in battle. Points for IAP are earned by challenging monsters that are shown on the world map as challenge monsters that drop powerful weapons and armor. It is possible to grind for IAP points in this game as said challenge monsters respawn upon defeat.

Closing Summary:

If you liked Alphadia Genesis, Go buy this game. If you dont (Hey Azyleo), then feel free to spend your money elsewhere. As for others, this is another average JRPG from EXE Create that is not very noteworthy as it copies too many of it's features from previous games. The Rune Gem system is oft clunky with runes and gems that don't compliment each other very often. The plot is predictable and despite this game being about treasure hunting, it features very little and not so challenging puzzles. If the game had puzzles that were challenging, then I would be sold on this game being a treasure hunt JRPG with Puzzles challenging the player and adding depth to the dungeons.
