Short and without any surprises
Again we have a cast of 4 teens to save the world. A world that is divided into the overworld and the spiritworld.
The gameplay is the usual go to town A, you can only reach it through dungeon A, and in town A you are told to go to town B…guess what you must walk through dungeon B. It is very linear. Of course it is also a grindfest. But again a very easy one. I played it on PC with hardest setting and nearly every fight was down with auto fighting. Only to gain some skills and for the Extra fights in the secret Arena I used manuel fighting.
And that brings us to the game’s biggest feature: Spirits
Besides the Hero—who is, after all, a Spirit himself—the other three Spirits can be captured (this usually happens automatically) and then slowly leveled up into battle machines or replaced with better Spirits found later. The different Spirits can learn various spells, and you can further enhance them with crystals earned in battle.
Well, that’s about it for extras. As with almost all EXE games, there’s an in-game shop. After every third battle, you receive points that you can spend in this shop. These points can be used to purchase items, and you can use a random crafting station that produces randomly selected items (not armor or weapons). There’s also a roulette table where you receive two tickets to play every real-world day. Finally, there’s an extra cheat shop where you can, for example, buy up to 300% more experience points or 100% more damage for a bunch of points. It’s nice that you can’t get a super weapon right from the start. Weapons and armor are only available in shops and chests.
At first, it’s a bit of a hassle to run to every location; sometimes you even have to go through a dungeon to switch between the Overworld and the Spirit World… but later on, you can easily warp to all previously visited locations and dungeons.
This is especially helpful for the so-called side quests, which usually consist of finding X in Dungeon X or killing a monster there.
After defeating the main villain, there’s also the option to play an extra scenario. Here, you have to choose one of two scenarios and can then unlock two additional endings. However, the levels and progress you’ve achieved in one scenario are not carried over to the other.
At least there’s now a Secret Arena with somewhat stronger monsters.
There are also some new side quests. With this, you can finally sail to three different islands (this happens automatically after selecting the island…no manual sailing required) where you’ll encounter particularly lucrative monsters: a) Iron monsters, b) Gold monsters, and c) somewhat tougher monsters.
Well, and that’s about it. The game is very quick to complete…even though I leveled up to 999 and also increased the attributes, I still finished in just under 12 hours.
Pros:
- No bugs
- easy control
Cons:
- Boring, because the same thing has already been done by Exe countless times.
- No real challenge, even the strongest opponents were usually defeated in 1-2 rounds (on the hardest game level).
