Granzalk Castle
Written by MSG Commander
The game starts with Ryle training with his Commanding Officer. During the opening dialogue, we learn that Ryle recently lost his parents, and that just two years ago, he became a soldier.
(Don't worry, we'll learn more about Ryle as the game progresses.)
After the opening scene, take the stairs under the arch to a storage room. This room has two treasure chests - 100G and a Potion of Life.
Trouble in Granzalk Castle
Now take the other set of stairs and go east to enter the castle. Wander around the castle until you encounter Gardino, one of the Evils.
You won’t be able to win this fight, so just attack until he beats you. (Don’t use Auto, though, or you’ll waste your Potions.)
After losing to Gardino, he swings his sword at you, but misses and smashes a hole in the floor instead (which Ryle then falls through).
In the basement, Ryle finds a golem who's been lying there, sleeping, for quite some time. The golem awakens and starts to speak, then Gardino shows up to finish you off.
It starts to look like Gardino and the golem are going to fight, and then another Evil shows up and tells Gardino it's time to go, and to save fighting with you for later.
After that, Ryle passes out, and when he comes to he's in the castle, in a sort of large sleeping area. Here he meets Prince Royneed, who tells him to go see King Gnorr, so they can talk about Ryle and the golem, and how they fended off the Evils.
An Assignment from the King
Go find the throne room and talk to King Gnorr.
Here, you meet the golem again, and learn that his name is Denoas. King Gnorr explains that Denoas was built to oppose the Evils, but that nothing the King's men had done was ever able to awaken him.
He says that the elves and dwarves are also building golems of their own, and that your experience with Denoas may be able to help the other races to better understand how golems work.
Then, King Gnorr asks Ryle to accompany Denoas to the elves' village, so that they can study him.
Once you have control of Ryle again, go east of the throne room and through the arched doorway at the end of the path. Find a room that looks sort of like a kitchen - there are two treasure chests here; a Campset and a Crystal of Return.
Now go back to the throne room area and go south to leave the castle and enter Granzalk Castle Town.
