The Mountain Path
Written by MSG Commander
From the Silent Forest, cross the bridge to the north and then walk west over to the forest. When you reach the forest you'll automatically enter the Mountain Path.
When you enter the path, the party talks a bit about the workmanship of the dwarves. As you walk into the path, a mysterious girl shows up and starts following you.
On the next screen there's some more dialogue. You learn that the Evils of the Earth-depths got their name because they slither up from the deepest depths of the Earth. Rumil says that once the other golem is ready, you'll have no problems defeating the Evils.
At the end of this screen, Denoas says he thinks someone's following you. He lures out the mysterious girl, and you learn that her name is Karin. Karin is following you because she senses danger around your party.
Apparently, she believes that King Gnorr is planning something bad, and since Ryle is a soldier in Granzalk, he must be a part of whatever the king is planning.
After all the dialogue, Karin decides to join your party (mainly so she can keep an eye on you, and make sure you're not up to anything bad.)
On the next screen, you run into Hargna (the other Evil who appeared in the basement of Granzalk Castle).
Right from the start, Hargna seems to rub everyone in your party the wrong way - but, hey, she is an Evil of the Earth-depths, after all.
After a bit of rather odd dialogue, you get to fight Hargna.
Boss Battle
Hargna
- 400EXP/800G/5AP
- Drop: Spiritstone of Life
- Steal: Special Potion of Life
Even though she doesn’t have armor, Hargna is definitely tougher than the Armor Beetle.
Some of her attacks affect all party members, so keep your deadliness gauge full enough so that Rumil can use Holy Breath as needed (right now it’s the only Heal All skill you have, and it’ll save your bacon in this battle).
You can use Vilsugia Punish and Grandcross to speed things up, but always save enough for one Holy Breath, just in case. (I promise, you will need it.)
It doesn't really matter too much which skills you use when you run out of Finishing Moves. Hargna resists Paralysis, and neither Waterbomb nor Windcutter seem to be especially strong or weak.
Just keep everybody's health up, and always have one Holy Breath on standby
The battle will take awhile, but if you follow the above strategy, you will be able to win.
When Hargna's health is really low - like almost gone - you can safely use Grandcross or Vilsugia Punish if you want, even if doing so will empty your Deadliness Gauge.
After the battle, go north to exit the Mountain Path.
Your next destination is actually a detour to Malnaret Inn (you don't have to go there to complete the story, but it's on the way so you might as well check it out).
